I enclose a copy of a letter from the

Reverend C. Dixon Cousins of the London Mission at Poklo

reporting on the action taken by him on receipt of the news,

and I have caused a suitable letter to be sent to Mr.

Cousins thanking him on behalf of this Government for the

great assistance rendered by him in the matter. On arrival

of the remains at Sheklung they were brought by rail to

Hongkong, and I enclose a copy of report by Dr. Smalley on

his examination. The funeral took place on the evening of

the 11th June and the large attendance of the general

public afforded evidence of the great respect in which

the deceased officer was held.

By the death of Inspector Terrett the Hong-

Kong Police Force has lost one of its ablest officers. He had 21 years service and was due to retire on pension in 18 months on reaching the age of 45. He has left a widow and three children in respect of whom I will submit recommendations in a separate despatch.
